Swim

Coach Starbuck - Head Coach

Swim

Hi Team! My name is Susana Starbuck and this will be my sixth season of coaching the JP2 Lions swim team. Ever since I can remember, swimming has always been a significant part of my life. I started lessons at a young age because my parents wanted me to be safe around my grandparents pool. Well as they say "the rest was history"! I loved the pool and most importantly, I loved to race! At the age of 9 I started on my first club team and never looked back. By my junior year of high school I had qualified for US Nationals in the 1650 yard freestyle and the 2008 US Olympic Trials in the 400 and 800 meter freestyle. In college I swam for the University Arizona where we were NCAA Champions in 2008. After swimming competitively for over 12 years, I stepped away from the pool deck and wouldn't return until taking the head coaching position here at JP2 in 2018. In 2020 I joined the the faculty in the English department where I teach 12th grade (AP & College Prep) British Literature and Composition as well as 9th grade Speech class.

I am so thankful to have a supportive husband and six beautiful children cheering me on every step of the way. I anticipate another incredible season for the JP2 Lions and I can't wait to see what new heights they will reach!

Hi, my name is Mary Silva and I am very excited to enter my fifth year with the swim program as one of the Assistant Coaches. I absolutely love being a part of this program, I love working with the students and watching them strive to meet their personal goals. You will find me most meets behind the blocks very loudly motivating the swimmers, or helping calm their nerves before their heat. Swimming has been a big part of my life; I started my swimming journey at age 3 and was on my first swim team competing at age 4! I was the smallest and youngest one on the team and swam in circles but once in a while I managed to place in my races. I went into the archives and found a photo of me circa 1984 for your amusement. A little bit about me, I am a training manager for Amazon, and an adjunct communications professor at EMCC. I have one son who just graduated from JP2 this past May, and will be off to college all the way in Illinois. I am looking forward to the upcoming season, and excited to get to know you all.
