Veritatis Splendor--The Splendor of Truth

Academics

College-Preparatory

St. John Paul II Catholic High School provides a college-preparatory curriculum that achieves high standards and is intentionally integrated among departments. Students will acquire knowledge in the required fields of Religion, Ethics & Culture, English, Mathematics, Science, History/Social Studies, World Languages, Fine Arts, Physical Education, and Digital Media.

3 Levels of Classes

College-prep

Selected courses are offered on three levels of study: College-preparatory, Honors, and Advanced Placement, challenging students at the appropriate level for their growth. St. John Paul II offers one diploma. Individual transcripts reflect Honors and AP achievements. A minimum of 28 credits is required; however, most John Paul II students will earn 32 credits over four years. The John Paul II diploma is worth up to 5 credits more than advanced diplomas from schools with similar academic goals, demonstrating to colleges and universities an uncommon level of preparation for higher studies.

Honors

The Honors course is designed to prepare the student for Advanced Placement courses. Honors courses are weighted an extra 0.5 point toward GPA. Students who apply for and are assigned to Honors courses remain in that academic level for the entire year

Advanced Placement

Advanced Placement (AP) courses offer course content, homework load, and pace at a college level. Academically ambitious students are encouraged to enroll in Advanced Placement courses, knowing that these will be taught in great depth and will demand more independent work on the student’s part. AP courses are weighted an extra 1.0 point toward GPA. Students who apply for and are assigned to Advanced Placement courses remain in that academic level for the entire year. All students enrolled in AP courses take the specific AP exam in May.

Dual Enrollment

St. John Paul II Catholic High School has a partnership with Grand Canyon University that allows students to take courses through GCU to earn credit for college and for high school.
